This project began after the three Oliver brothers and their families searched in vain for a small, pet friendly, lakeside resort in the Okanagan/Shuswap region. They were looking for an easy going, welcoming experience for family and friends, one that had multiple amenities to keep both kids and adults entertained. Rick says, “Looking around, there really wasn’t anything that was even close to what we wanted and so we started looking for a property to create one.” David says, “I was convinced that the best place in the region to have a place would be on Mara Lake and so when we found this property we jumped on it.”Fast forward to today, at Sunshine Bay Cottages there is a beautiful 5.7 Acre piece of lakefront property that allows everyone to enjoy nature and also has access to over 500 feet of lakeshore. Brothers Rick, Joe and David Oliver were raised by parents who believed strongly in the value of family and friends! They shared “We were always surrounded by family and by friends that became part of our family.” Their parents did everything that they could to ground them in family values, help them grow and to develop their dreams. The brothers all agree “our parents gave us kids so much, they sacrificed for us so that we could play our sports and experience life – they supported us and encouraged us to pursue our passions.” As a result, each of the boys went in their own directions, each raising a family of their own, developing close friend groups and experiencing much success. Rick focused on education where he earned several degrees culminating in a Doctorate in Education and had a highly successful career in teaching and administration. Joe followed his passion for hockey, coaching and recruiting players and his keen eye for talent ultimately led him to become an NHL player agent where he continues to grow and develop players. David from an early age couldn’t get enough of hockey. His passion, hard work and skill have led to success in the NHL as Player, Director of Player Development, Assistant Coach, and most recently Professional Scout.The brothers and their families remain close and their hope for this project is to give their kids and grandkids an amazing place to grow, develop and connect with friends and family.
